About Josh Matlow

Josh Matlow is an elected Trustee at the Toronto District School Board for the riding of St. Paul’s, an environmentalist, a journalist and serves as a director on boards for several non-profit organizations and charities.

A professionally-trained performer, Josh has studied under Alan Gutman in Toronto, Canada and at Robert Cordier’s Acting International and Ecole Jacques LeCoq in Paris, France.

In 2002, Josh ran as the Ontario Liberal Party's candidate in a provincial by-election against Premier Ernie Eves, raising crucial social and environmental issues. He challenged the Ontario government on its cuts to public education, environmental neglect and plans to privatize hydro, and surprisingly came within ten points of beating Premier Eves. Along with being a candidate himself, he has worked on several provincial, federal and municipal campaigns.

Josh has worked as the Co-Executive Director of Earthroots- a Toronto-based environmental advocacy organization while campaigning to protect the Oak Ridges Moraine, climate campaigner for Greenpeace Canada, National Campaign Coordinator for the Canadian Peace Alliance during the commencement of the Iraq war, has written articles and columns for several Canadian newspapers and magazines and has hosted a radio call-in show..

In the diverse worlds of business, arts, journalism, social justice and environmental activism, and as a politician, Josh has been successful at raising awareness and garnering attention on important issues while seeing the aspirations and priorities of his community, through to fruition.

A new generation of leadership

With friends in all political parties, Josh believes in non-partisanship when working on solving today's most important challenges. At the Toronto District School Board, Trustee Matlow votes on the merits of each motion- for what is best for public education and the community.

As Trustee for St. Paul’s, Josh Matlow has championed issues ranging from environmental education, transparency and accountability, fiscal responsibility, promoting diversity and curbing youth violence to implementing opportunities for genuine public consultation at the TDSB.
